UBISOFT x IMMUTABLE ANNOUNCE MIGHT & MAGIC FATES
Today, Immutable announced they're collaborating with Ubisoft to create an original Web3 strategy card game set in the Might and Magic universe: Might & Magic Fates (M&M), scheduled to launch this year
The M&M franchise started in 1995 and produced a total of 9 games before New World Computing, the developers, closed. Since then, the rights have been owned by Ubisoft
Note: Remarkably, almost every successful digital TCG is IP-first
Might & Magic Fates will launch on mobile, bringing a fresh, competitive, and skill-based experience
What the TCG’s unique features or mechanics are isn’t detailed in the press releases
Interestingly enough, Ubisoft was hiring in 2022 to develop Might & Magic Fates and registered the domains. At the time, people were speculating about an open-world MMO
This means the game should have been in development for at least two years, reflecting the environment in which Ubisoft decided to make this bet
Gods Unchained, one of the first Web3 TCGs that launched in 2018 and migrated to Immutable in 2021, has been one of the largest games in crypto
The combination of NFT sales, royalties, and transactions has made it a large financial success
TCGs remain one of the genres with PMF for blockchain tech, and it looks like Might and Magic Fates is looking to build on their past success in this category
Despite the lack of success in Web3 with Ubisoft Quartz, Champions Tactics, and Captain Laserhawk Universe, and more recent financial challenges (that led to the Tencent investment), the company keeps trying in crypto gaming
G7 ANNOUNCES STRUCTURAL CHANGES
After the disappointing token launch in February (like almost any other TGE this year), Game7 announced structural changes to its systems last week
The focus of these changes is to improve the token economy and build a strong foundation for future success
Key changes include:
USDC generated in the Citizen Pool will be allocated for G7 buybacks, to benefit long-term stakers and strengthen token value
On the tokenomics side:
~39M unclaimed G7 tokens are being burned
The revenue split is adjusted to a 20% allocation to the Citizen Pool (previously 80%), and 80% going to operations
A reallocation of 10% of community tokens to reward core contributors
A clear signal of choosing sustainability over rewarding “farmers”
G7 Boxes with USDC and diamond prizes will be discontinued due to disalignment with real ecosystem value. Instead, they are shifting towards impact-based rewards
This is a key change in the reward system. Usually, “impact-based” refers to rewarding actions that grow the network
Furthermore, Quests, LootDrops, Credits, and Diamonds Store tabs will be removed
Another key change in rewards, which is telling of how the questing platform model doesn’t lead to meaningful outcomes (anymore)
Lastly, there will be a redesign of the reputation system, the new system will focus on actions directly contributing to Game7’s growth and revenue
Overall, Game7 had to learn the hard way that this market doesn’t reward you for handing out a large allocation to your holders, unlike other cycles, where airdrop recipients didn’t kill your chart D1
It’s good to see they’re choosing a more sustainable route, and they seem well-funded to stay afloat for the next couple of years
AI SMOLS IN GIGAVERSE
Smolverse shipped an interesting new piece of utility to its holders, a direct integration into Gigaverse of Smol NFTs
Holders go to the Treasure marketplace, log in to Gigaverse from there, and deploy their Smol every 24 hours (soon this will be autonomous), to make the AI play the game for them
This wasn't the first time we've seen AI used in Gigaverse. Someone developed their own agent to optimize their run a few months back (unfortunately, I can't find the tweet anymore).
Additionally, Daydreams has been working on an integration as well
Gigaverse has an open API, so devs can freely build apps on top of the game. Dith outlined his thoughts on the agentic future of games:
Every game will come around, welcoming agents
Agents will occupy the worker-class role in the game, replacing repetitive work for time-poor humans. He frames them as the scholars’ 2.0, except they run 24/7, scale infinitely, and don’t require a share of the rewards
The magic formula 1) delivers value to the players and 2) is net positive to the game economy
Not everything should be playable by agents. Some features should be highly compatible, some partly, and some should be inaccessible
Furthermore, Dith speaks of future agent hiring using the in-game marketplace
Essentially, these agents create a new meta layer to the game, where the game becomes finding the best agent to play for you (when it comes to the core game loop)
On the contrary, this almost defeats the purpose of playing yourself (as a human), agents will outpace humans in this game almost instantly, taking away the fun. AI Agents are pretty much the same as bots after all
