🗞️ NEWS
THE GUNZ FOUNDATION
Gunzilla Games partnered with Delphi Digital to advise on the creation of the GUNZ Foundation in preparation of the GUN token and GUNZ mainnet launch
GUNZ is built as an L1 network on the Avalanche blockchain, which is currently still in testnet, however, it will move to mainnet in Q1 2025 (tentatively)
When mainnet goes live, players will be able to trade their in-game assets for GUN tokens (with real-world value)
One valid concern is the item economy of OTG, as the new supply of items being introduced is quite significant at the moment
Another concern is whether early serial numbers will have any significance
The GUNZ network will also be looking for other developers to build on their infra
One of the goals of the GUNZ Foundation is to mitigate the risks of creating a toxic in-game economy, whereby Delphi will advise on token economic and player-centric integration
It will be interesting to see how they will tackle the arms race with cheaters when there are real stakes at hand at this scale
THE PIXEL ECOSYSTEM EXPANDS
Pixels announces Pixel Dungeons (formerly known as Crack & Stack) is joining their ecosystem
Pixel Dungeons is a risk-based game where players are tasked to mine ores, survive for 2 minutes, and extract their loot. The caveat is that other players and NPCs are there to kill you
Players pay an entrance fee to access a cave, creating a sustainable system where not everyone can win. This mechanism acts as a net sink for the PIXEL token, helping to balance the economy
The Pixel ecosystem uses a shared login, reputation, and data and P2E-tech system across its games
This means your player history in Pixels can grant you benefits in Pixel Dungeons
We know that Pixels has invested a lot of resources into R&D to “solve P2E” (making P2E net positive), and when they achieve this feat they can scale, scale, and scale
Earlier this month, Luke Barwikowski (the founder) wrote a post, the Pixel Foundation is looking at acquisition/publishing deals:
To grow the ecosystem with games that are (near) complete with a high promise of monetization
The game doesn’t need to be Web3, and may even lean toward Web2
Games must use PIXEL to monetize and use PIXEL’s authentication and log in + share the data with the team
The goals of the Foundation seem to grow the utility of Pixels, acquire new (and different) users through other games, collect more player data, and improve monetization per player, all leading to a more sustainable business
I am curious whether they will only acquire/publish pixelated games
OPENLOOT $150M FUND
Arguably the largest game of 2023, Big Time, announced a $150M Open Loot Fund to empower Web3 gaming on their platform (plus being RPG of the year in 2024)
The fund will provide financial backing, marketing expertise, and dev support to create better crypto games
Recently, Open Loot launched their token, which peaked at ~$2B FDV (but has a very low float)
Many have a love-hate relationship with Big Time due to its high degree of financialization and lack of depth (fun)
But we can’t argue the game hasn’t been successful from a business perspective and it’s a positive development to see their success lead to the creation of a fund that will grow the space
Context on success: raised $10.3M in 2021, an additional $11M, sold over $70M in NFTs, etc.
Open Loot will manage all the NFT sales of Big Time and its 5 other launch partners
These include World Shards, Boss Fighters, The Desolation, Shatterpoint, and One Tap
It’s interesting how every game we talked about today is turning into an infra-provider, not?
