FABLEBORNE MOVES TO RONIN
After Kam teased us for a couple of days and Ronin put out a few mysterious messages, the news is out: Fableborne is joining Ronin
The announcement shows some game footage we haven’t seen before:
This means we will likely see S3 of the game’s P2A campaign soon, a much more complete build of the game, including new environments and new building and raiding mechanics
The Ronin newsletter also mentions that you will have to reserve some RON for “Fortune Passes” - I speculate this relates to earning in the P2A campaign
I do expect the NFT collection to remain on ETH, similar to Forgotten Runes’ Watcher Rings and other collections
If you’ve been around for a little while, you have likely experienced Fableborne’s evolution
Pixion scrapped 6 earlier versions of the gameplay loop, including one of the major pivots that happened this year, which was a complete overhaul of the current gameplay
This iterative process shows the team’s commitment to building the best game possible
Fableborne is one of the best mobile Web3 games coming to market, and I expect their token launch isn’t too far away
It’s a big win for both Fableborne and Ronin, which again solidifies itself as one of the top gaming chains, attracting this title
BREEDERDAO EVOLVES INTO SOVRUN
BreederDAO (BD), known as the “Factory of the Metaverse”, has existed since the 2021 Axie Boom. Now, recently announced its evolution into Sovrun
Before we get into that, let’s talk about BD’s history:
BD started in 2021 as a company focused on growing (primarily) P2E economies through programmatic asset-generation systems (breeding, merging, crafting, etc.)
In total, they generated over 150,000 NFT assets in games such as Axie, Crabada, Cyball, and Sypher
In October 2021 the company raised $2M in its Seed round and in January 2022 BD raised $10M in a Series A through a token sale
BD partnered with major guilds such as YGG and Earn Guild. And build a tech stack that includes marketplace analytics, tokenomics data, financial analytics, etc. to streamline NFT production and distribution
In July 2022 BD moved to the current DAO model
BD is now rebranding to Sovrun, which means the focus is shifting as well. Sovrun aims to support fully autonomous, player-driven game ecosystems
Building ecosystems that prioritize permissionless composability, scalability, and modifiability
Sovrun Genesis will serve as the Participation Layer, using a $17M grant fund to support emerging Web3 gaming economies
Back in June, they won Project Awakening’s (now EVE Frontier) hackathon, building an environment that reflects the concept of an autonomous world
Furthermore, they stated to have plans to work with Pirate Nation
TL:DR the company is shifting from NFT asset generation to creating tools, resources, and mechanisms to support players, creators, and dev to build player-driven economies/ecosystems inside of fully on-chain games
An understandable shift, considering the former isn’t a viable business model anymore. A pivot many of the major guilds made in the past year or so
MOCAVERSE RAISES AN ADDITIONAL $10M
Just yesterday it was announced Animoca Brands raised an additional $10M for Mocaverse, making their total funds raised $41.88M
The purpose of this extra round is to fast-track and scale the company’s operations and further build out its account, identity, and reputation systems for consumer crypto adoption
Mocaverse has been busy expanding this year through large partnerships such as the Anime Foundation, MyAnimeList, One Football, the TON Foundation, and Magic Eden
Mocaverse has a range of products now including MOCANA, MOCAID, MOCALIST, and Cosmic Club
Cosmic Club is its flagship gaming hub, which onboarded Cosmic Royale and Cosmic Bomber this year, with more to be announced
In a way, Mocaverse is similar to Abstract, both pushing toward “consumer crypto”, 1) Moca achieves this by apps adopting their SDKs and 2) Abstract by onboarding more games/apps on their chain
Is this additional raise by Animoca a response to Abstract’s recent come-up? Idk. But I imagine they want to continue to be the frontrunner of this narrative
The battle for infra (chains, protocols, etc.) to attract good apps will only become more fierce
