🗞️ NEWS
FABLEBORNE ANNOUNCES POWER AND MORE…
This Monday Fableborne announced the POWER token and published a new litepaper. Let’s point out the highlights:
The litepaper speaks of first-party titles, meaning Pixion plans to build multiple titles in the future
Primordial NFTs will have utility across all Pixion’s fp-titles
Essence (Primordial > Gold > Silver > Bronze) will provide exposure to the POWER token
POWER is the ecosystem currency of Fableborne and all its future titles:
Power Protocol is a live ops infra platform, and game publisher, with Fableborne as the flagship title
Because the litepaper mentions “first-party", I assume they will be launching 2nd-party and 3-rd party games as well
POWER is a multi-game-, live ops infra-, and ecosystem currency of all Pixion Games titles
Post-TGE token LiveOps continues to bring (new) utility to the token, which should lead to more continuous demand
POWER can be used as a webshop currency to buy IAPs
By buying using POWER players receive “the most content per dollar”, because it circumvents the app store fees
Similar to how King of Destiny uses a webstore (PWA) inside the game
Players will be able to equip skins to change their appearance and special edition skins offer POWER upgrade paths, influencing rewards
Players can own and play with Limited Edition Heroes, these won’t give a P2W advantage. However, they will have a POWER upgrade system
Seasons will happen every 2 months, which after player progress will reset, but cross-season rewards are saved
Lastly, Fableborne’s roadmap looks like the following:
Fableborn global launch > soft launch > turn on UA > scale UA with a positive return on CAC (the typical mobile scaling template)
TL:DR: multiple titles, POWER is a multi-game-, live ops infra-, and ecosystem currency, Power Protocol will be a game publisher, special edition skins and heroes, 2-month seasons, and global launch coming soon
KARRAT CHAIN
Karrat announced they’re building their own studio chain. With this transformation to a publisher ecosystem, they’re inviting other games to build on their tech stack
The chain will focus on aspects such as high TPS, custom gas tokens, security, cross-chain interoperability, off-chain channels, etc. among other things
We’re seeing many of the games with a flagship title (My Pet Hooligan in this case) turning into publishing ecosystems/going the infra route, why?
Usually (not always), this can be attributed to one of the following reasons:
Increased value capture
Makes it easier to raise from VCs
More revenue opportunities
The idea is that your flagship title acts as the top of the funnel for your ecosystem, which trickles down attention/interest to your platform and so other apps. Similar to how Axie > Ronin
Interestingly enough KARRAT’s token price hasn’t moved up much since the announcement, potentially being indicative of the lack of excitement toward more gaming chains
Whilst Karrat and My Pet Hooligan have a strong community, we have yet to see the game gain good traction, which will be the most important factor here imo
PLAY VENTURES RAISES $140M
Play Ventures, the early-stage gaming VC, raised $140M for its third games funding round. It is the firm’s biggest raise yet, bringing total assets to $450M
Funds will be allocated to 20-25 pre-seed to Series A rounds in mobile F2P, gaming infrastructure, AI-enhanced gaming tools, mobile consumer apps, and new distribution models for games
The firm has a smaller fund, called the “Play Future Fund” which focuses on blockchain gaming. I assume a % of the raise will be allocated to this fund
The Play Future Fund has invested in a range of games ( and related apps), including companies such as:
Ancient 8, Azra Games, Community Gaming, GuildFi (Zentry), IndiGG, Mighty Action Heroes, Tribo Games, and more
The latest round they invested in seems to be Darkbright, the studio building Smolbound
