🗞️ NEWS
ONCHAIN HEROES JOINING ABSTRACT
Last Monday Onchain Heroes announced they will join Abstract, the consumer crypto chain by Igloo Inc. (Pudgy Penguins)
If you’re not familiar with Onchain Heroes, here’s the TL;DR of what we know:
It’s an idle RPG in which players will choose gameplay based on their risk tolerance
There will also be a staking component (game) similar to Wolf Game, Raid Party, and Crypto Valleys
Originally planned to launch in Q3 this year, but it seems that didn’t happen
Founded by the lead game dev of Wolf game
Backed by angels such as Beanie, Brydisanto, Hunter, Apix, and Seedphrase
On the partnership itself, Onchain Heroes chose to build on Abstract for 3 reasons: UX, distribution, and culture
Distribution: “We want OCH to cater to a wide range of players while discovering the playstyle that suits them the best and that vision requires scale”
As an on chain game that’s also clearly catered to the Web3 degen, it’s interesting to see why they chose such a consumer-facing chain.
Can Abstract make games so seamless even FOCGs become accessible to the mainstream? Maybe
Last week we also pointed out Abstract is ramping up content, perhaps this is indicating the apps are coming…
DELPHI VENTURES IS DOUBLING DOWN ON OTG
Piers Kicks, the founding partner of Delphi Ventures, announced they made their “largest gaming investment ever” in Gunzilla Games (Off the Grid)
This means Delphi has become the largest validator (node holder) of GUNZ
In his thread, Piers outlines some of OtG's highlights and sheds light on what’s coming:
A team that worked on Warface, FarCry, Crysis, and CryEngine, with creative direction from co-founder Neil Blomkamp known for directing District9
60-hours of narrative campaign next to the BR multiplayer experience
All free content and important for the top-of-funnel for the BR experience
Massive BR map with verticality, extract-based looting, replaceable cyber limbs, and advanced aerial movements
Players will have the ability to respawn (with cyber limbs), solving the issue of “the BR slump” of deploying, finding players, dying, and finding a new match
All items are entered into the economy via player looting and extracting HEX
Items in players’ inventories are decoded by validators and minted on chain
Supporting infra: GUNZ chain, wallet, marketplace, OtG companion app, TECHNOCORE (a mobile casual game), and they’re owners of PLINK gamer matchmaking (100K+ matches per day)
Over 2.2M registered wallets, 27M transactions processed, strong feedback from pros
Off the Grid will be Web3’s best shot at onboarding the masses (so far), and it’s not even close. The game is now available on XBOX, PS5, and PC (under NDA)
There’s also an upcoming soft launch (coming very soon) and a global launch scheduled for this quarter, so we might end this year with a bang
GR1D PACKS ON AMAZON
GR1D, the multichain gaming network announced that “GR1D Packs Become the First Web3 Gaming Digital Credits on Amazon”
A Web3 gaming rewards pack on Amazon, with exclusive drops from over 100 games (in partnership with Amazon Video Games)
Games that partnered with GR1D include Blocklords, Aurory, Genopets, and Nifty Island
When you head to Amazon now and go to the video games section, GR1D will have a promotional banner and a product page
You can buy a one-time pack of 10 credits here (for $9.99), which you can use to claim rewards via the GR1D TERM1NAL
The idea is similar to a PlayStation or XBOX credit Gift Card, but now you can claim 10 specific Web3 offers (Season Pass, starter bundle, NFT packs, etc.) from different partnered games
The rewards you can pick switch out every week
While Amazon is a large distribution channel I don’t see Web3 users buying these Credits here, so I think it’s more of an awareness play, assuming the “Amazon Video Games” page receives a lot of traction
Note: we did see other Amazon x Web3 gaming initiatives in the past years through Prime Gaming, but these didn’t seem effective
