🗞️ NEWS
FABLEBORNE RAISES $12.4M AND INTRODUCES…
Fableborne announced they raised a total of $12.4M this week. Let’s take a look back at their funding history:
They raised a seed round in July 2019 of $2M
This was when they were still working on a Brawl Stars-like game
Raised $5.5M in an extended seed round in June 2023
Announcing a total of $7.8M raised at this point
So, this means they raised another $4.6M in this latest round led by Delphi
Furthermore, Spartan Capital, Sky Mavis, L1D, Arete Capital, Animoca Brands, and YGG were involved
It wasn’t specified what round this was, but I assume it was strategic (=token round), also due to the involvement of Arete Capital
As mentioned in GC Alpha last Monday, Arete led the strategic angel round of Infinigod last November
The new funding will be used to: accelerate the development and expand the game, launch the POWER token, “[REDACTED]”, expand the Power Protocol Ecosystem, and strengthen the team
Furthermore, it’s notable that Fableborne is doubling down on its positioning as “the mobile Web3 game”, saying: “mobile will lead and Fableborne will be the catalyst”
Other than the raise, they announced a new addition called Fableborne Kingdoms:
A Ronin NFT collection that will be stakeable ("stake kingdoms and POWER”), there will be new items, a “merge to mint” (upgrade) mechanic - “merge, stake, earn”
“Fableborne Kingdoms will play a vital role in the Fableborne game. Kingdom NFTs will have seven rarities (ERC-1155 assets required for Kingdom rarity merge-to-mint upgrade).”
NRN IS COMING TO RONIN
In other news, NRN announced they are joining the Ronin Network:
“Starting Q1 2025, NRN Agents will bring AI battles, adaptive gameplay, and real-time player-driven economies to Ronin's ecosystem.”
What does this partnership look like?
The integration of NRN Agents will kick off with a proof-of-concept demonstration of select Ronin games
AI Arena will also launch a dedicated campaign during this period
I’d be curious about the response of the Ronin crowd, as AI Arena is more of a model simulation trainer than an enjoyable game
In Q2 they will be planning to roll out the NRN gaming SDK to Ronin Studios and devs
Shash shared his thoughts on the partnership, saying:
“This allows for the mass deployment of AI agents on Ronin - adding player liquidity and creating new gameplay modes”
The AI Agent Flappy Bird competition is an example of these new gameplay modes
“For Ronin - this allows them to tap into the AI narrative and allow their chain to be a birthplace of AI innovation”
Many gaming-focused chains have announced AI-driven initiatives over the past year (Avalanche: InfraBUIDL(AI), XAI: Aethir Cloud fund, and Raijin, Arbitrum: AI Atlas, etc.)
So it makes sense for Ronin to position themselves more strongly for this narrative, especially with Open Ronin
Other than the Ronin news, they also announced (another) rebrand from ARC Agents to NRN Agents
A good decision to make the ecosystem more streamlined (also good for the token)
B3 AND THE PLAYER1 FOUNDATION
B3, the “open gaming L3 on Base” introduced the Player1 Foundation a couple of days ago
Remember NPC Labs, which raised $18M last July, that’s the team behind B3 (former Base team)
B3 positioned itself as the gaming ecosystem on the Base network (which it didn’t have before). Over the past 6 months, they built a network of 6M players and 80 live games
Slightly similar to Sonic Labs and Solana from the first-mover perspective
I swear I thought this first before I read this Tweet by Piers
The games on B3 (basement.fun) are quite simple, they are comparable to “Flash Games”. What’s more interesting is that 5+ gamechains will launch on top of B3 this Q1
One of these is the Prime Chain (by Parallel), which was the first gamechain announced on B3 Open Gaming during the YGG Play Summit
So, they have some marketing ammunition (4+ other gamechains) in the pipeline, and it seems Parallel TCG will launch on there shortly
More announcements related to new gamechain partnerships this week
B3 is an onchain infrastructure play:
“Power your gamechain with your own token, design a custom in-game economy aligned with your vision. The stack is yours to configure.”
B3 will connect chains and players through unified liquidity, account abstraction, sponsored gas, referral incentives, and cross-functionality
The Basement gaming platform/storefront serves as the connecting tissue for gamers and publishers
To my understanding, it’s some sort of mix between Proof of Play onchain infrastructure and Avalanche subnets
Lastly, on the token itself:
The B3 token will give you exposure to new gamechains and gamechain tokens, exposure to key infra partner tokens, and will be used for referral rewards
